Who We Are At Bay Vue Methodist

Welcome to Crystal Beach and Bay Vue Methodist!  We are a community of believers in Jesus Christ who come together to worship the Lord, grow in faith and strength, and serve the Lord with gladness.  Crystal Beach is a wonderful community to visit and to live in. The dress is casual and the hearts are warm.  If you are enjoying a weekend at the beach and are looking for a place to worship on Sunday, come join us.  We love visitors.  If you are living on Crystal Beach and are looking for a church to call home, we would love to meet you.

If you have questions about the church and our ministries, or about your own personal faith, please contact us. Come journey with us as we seek to know the Lord and learn to share his love with others.

The History of Bay Vue Methodist

Bay Vue Methodist began as a mission church of the Galveston District in 1963, and was established to create a ministry that would reach out to the people who lived in beach houses or were on vacation at the beach. “Come as you are” was the intent, even before it became our slogan.

Our first pastor, Rev. W.C. Hall, was then a seminary student charged with building a ministry and the church building. At first, Bay Vue Methodist was only open during the summer, but soon we opened our doors for year-round ministry and worship. We then became part of a two-point charge along with Port Bolivar Methodist who had a long history already on Bolivar. Bay Vue's first church building, an A-frame building, now houses Bay Vue's Second Going, a thrift shop owned and run by Bay Vue Methodist.

As the church grew, it became evident that a new location and a larger facility would be needed. In 1968 property was purchased on Highway 87 and the new church building was built, with the parsonage being completed a year later.

In the years since then there have been ups and downs, including the destruction caused by Hurricane Ike in 2008.  The parsonage was completely destroyed, and the church building was filled with mud and debris.  Thankfully, church members and generous volunteers came together to clean up the site and help restore Bay Vue Methodist.  We are looking towards a bright future and a fruitful ministry in which God uses us to show His love and grace.

Our current pastor, Rev. Valerie Hudson, moved here in 2015 and also serves St. Matthew's Methodist in High Island and Port Bolivar Methodist in Port Bolivar. If you have any questions about faith, the Christian life, Methodism, or life on Bolivar, the pastor is happy to visit. Contact her at bayvuemethodistchurch@gmail.com.
