“Jesus Christ is the same yesterday and today and forever.” Hebrews 13:8
Lent, The Journey to Easter
Ash Wednesday (Feb. 18) marks the beginning of Lent. It is a season of 40 days in which we are purposeful in remembering why Easter is an important holy day for Christians. Lent is a time of recognizing our mortal nature and facing the consequences of our sins. Romans 3:23 tells us that “all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God”. Because we cannot save ourselves from the devastation of sin, Christ came down from the glory of heaven to be our salvation. Lent is a time of fasting, prayer, reading and meditating on God’s word, for the purpose of gaining an appreciation of Christ’s love and sacrifice for us and for the whole world. During Lent, we recognize that Sundays are all resurrection days, sometimes referred to as “little Easters”.
You are invited to come to Bay Vue each Thursday during Lent, from 11 am – 1 pm, and spend time in the sanctuary seeking God’s presence. It is a very informal time of coming in to pray, to read a devotional, to meditate, or to sit in silence allowing the Holy Spirit room to speak to your heart. You are also invited to join us in worship on Sundays at 9 am.
Palm Sunday is March 29, and begins Holy Week. We will join with our sister church, St. Matthew’s Methodist Church in High Island, for our Maundy Thursday service, April 2 at 5 pm. Our Good Friday service will be held at Bay Vue Methodist on April 3 at 5 pm. It is a Tenebrae service with special readings and music which tell the story of Christ’s Passion- His betrayal, arrest and crucifixion.
Then on April 5, at 10 am, we will have a special Easter service at Bay Vue Methodist, joined by our sister churches, St. Matthew’s Methodist and Port Bolivar Methodist. It will be a great Resurrection Sunday celebration with Holy Communion (all are welcome) and special music.
We believe that Jesus came to meet us where we are, and then change our hearts and transform us into the image of His love. Come and celebrate Jesus with us!
Who Are We?
We are Bay Vue Methodist Church, a Global Methodist Church, as of January 1, 2023. We believe in the One True God, known to us as: God the Father, our Creator, God the Son, Jesus Christ our Savior, and God the Holy Spirit, our Guide and Comforter. The Apostles’ Creed is our statement of faith in the fully divine and fully human Jesus Christ who is ever-living and the Keystone of our faith.
We believe that God loves all and that Christ came to save the whole world, and therefore all people are to be valued and loved by Christ and His church. We believe that Christ calls us to repentance, to accept His forgiveness and grace, and then to begin living a new life of obedience to His command to love God, love neighbor, and to make disciples.
We invite anyone who is seeking the Lord to be a part of our community of faith to “Come as you are and leave transformed”. This means there is no dress code here at the beach. And more than that, it means that Christ Himself invites us all to come and let Him transform us into people who live for Christ each day.
You are loved. Come and join us as we learn more about what that means, and then live that out in worship, prayer, study, and service.
Our Mission
As a member of the Global Methodist Church, our Mission is to make disciples of Jesus Christ who worship passionately, love extravagantly, and witness boldly. Our Vision is to join God in a journey of bringing new life, reconciliation, and the presence of Christ to all people, and to helping each person reflect the character of Christ.
Our Bay Vue Methodist motto is “Come as you are and leave transformed.” Therefore we believe in living for the Lord who has saved us, and who calls us to love and serve one another on His behalf.
Worship
Worship at Bay Vue Methodist Church is at 9 am, followed by food and fellowship. We celebrate Holy Communion on the first Sunday of each month and all are welcome who come seeking the presence and grace of our Lord Jesus Christ. This service is live cast on Facebook on the “Bay Vue Worship and Events” page for those who are ill or traveling. We look forward to meeting you and seeing you face to face each Sunday.
